-Paper bleaching: producing chlorine dioxide (ClO₂)₂) for pulp bleaching (the world's largest use)
-Water treatment: preparation of ClO2₂for disinfection of drinking water, sewage, and food equipment
-Agriculture: Non selective herbicides (weed control on wasteland, railways, airports)
-Chemical raw materials: manufacturing sodium chlorite, perchlorate, dyes, explosives, matches
-Printing and dyeing metallurgy: oxidants, mordants; Used for ore processing and seawater bromine extraction
